The Tower of Babylon · Jan 4, 10:56 PM by Ad van den Ende
Genesis 11, 1-9
And the whole earth had one language
and one dialect for everybody.
And it happened as they wandered
from the east that they found a plain
in the land Babylonia, and settled there.
And the man said to his neighbour:
Come on! Let us make bricks
and bake them in the fire.
And for them became
the brick a stone,
and tar was for them the cement.
and they said:
Come on! Let us build for ourselves
a city and a tower,
of which the top will be
unto the heaven,
and so we will make for ourselves a name
and not be scattered
all over the earth.
And the Lord came down
to see the city and the tower
which the sons of the men had built.
And the Lord said:
Look, one people
and one language for all people
and this they began to do,
and not will be impossible for them all
what they plan to do.
Come on! Let us go down
and mix up their language there,
so that nobody will understand
the speech of his neighbour.
And the Lord scattered them from there
all over the earth,
and they stopped building the city
and the tower.
That’s why was named
the name of it Babylon
because there the Lord mixed up
the languages of all the people
and from there he scattered them,
the Lord God,
across the surface
of the whole earth.
