The Burial of Jesus · Dec 2, 04:33 AM by Ad van den Ende
And when evening allready had come,
and since it was the day of Preparation,
which is the day before the sabbath,
when he had come, Joseph of Arimathea,
a respected member of the council,
who was also himself expecting
the kingdom of God,
having mustered up his courage
went to Pilate
and asked for the body of Jesus.
And Pilate wondered
if he already had died;
and after summoning the centurion
he asked him whether he had died for some time.
And when he had learned from the centurion
(that Jesus was dead)
he gave the body to Joseph.
And having bought a linen cloth,
and after taking down him
he wrapped him in the linen cloth,
and laid him in a tomb
that had been hewn out of the rock.
And rolled a stone
against the door of the tomb.
Mary Magdalene
and Mary the (mother) of Joses
saw where he was laid.
Mc 16, 1-7 The Resurrection
When the sabbath had passed by
Mary Magdalene and Mary the (mother) of James,
and Salome bought spices,
so that they,after going there,
might anoint him.
And very early on the first (day) of the week
they go to the tomb,
after the sun had risen.
And they said to one another:
Τίς ἀποκυλίσει ἡμῖν τὸν λίθον
“Who will roll away for us the stone
ἐκ τῆς θύρας τοῦ μνημείου;
from the entrance of the tomb?”
And havng looked up, they see
that has been rolled back the stone;
for it was very big.
And after entering the tomb
they saw a young man,
sitting on the right side,
dressed in a white dress,
and they were amazed.
And he says to them:
Μὴ ἐκθαμβεῖσθε·
“Do not be amazed;
you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth,
who was crucified.
He has awakened/been raised, he is not here.
See the place where they laid him.
But come on,
tell his disciples
and Peter
that he is going ahead of you to Galilee;
there you will see him
just as he told you.”
And after going out
they fled from the tomb
for they had been seized by fear and bewilderment,
and they said nothing to anyone,
for they were afraid.
