Jesus' youth · 3584 dagen geleden by Ad van den Ende

Galilee

Jesus grew up in Galilee. This is a fertile region made up of precipice mountains, rolling hills and a valley leading to the Lake Galilee. Jesus and his first followers lived in a very fertile region. Perhaps this explains the frequent references in Jesus’ teaching to flora and agriculture.

Trust in God

(Luke 12:22-34)

22 “And so I tell you, neither do worry about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will wear. 23 For the life is more than the food, and the body is more than than the clothing. 24 Look at the crows: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds! 25 And which of you can, by worrying, add a cubit to his life? 26 So if you cannot do even a smallest thing, why do you worry about the rest? 27 Look at the wild flowers, how they grow; they do not work nor spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these! 28 Now if God clothes in this way the wild grass in the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is tossed into the oven, how much more he will clothe you, you people of little faith! 29 And do not pursue what you will eat and what you will drink; do not worry about such things. 30 For all the nations of the world pursue these things, but your Father knows that you need them. 31 Instead, pursue his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. 32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give charity. Provide yourselves purses that do not wear out, a treasure in heaven that not will be stolen, where a thief not approaches and no moth destroys, 34 For where your treasure is, there also your heart will be.

(Luke 6:43-45)

A Tree and its fruit

43 “For there is no good tree bearing bad fruit, nor again a bad tree bearing good fruit,
44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For from thorns they don’n pick figs ,
nor from brambles they pick grapes.
45 A good person produces good out of the good treasury of his heart,
and the evil person out of his evil treasury produces evil,
for out of the abundance of his heart speaks his mouth.”
