Acts 8, 1-3
8 Saul begins to persecute the Church
1
On that day occured
a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem.
and all scattered
throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria,
except the apostles.
Some devout men buried Stephen
and made great lamentation over him.
But Saul disgraced the church;
one house after another entering,
dragging off both men and women
he put them in prison.
Acts 9,1-19 The Conversion of Saul
And Saul,
still breathing out threats and murder
against the disciples of the Lord,
after going to the high priest
requested from him letters
to the synagogues in Damascus,
so that if he found people belonging to the Way,
men and women,
he could bring them, put in irons, to Jerusalem.
As he was going along,
it happened that he approached Damascus,
suddenly flashed around him a light from the heaven.
And, fallen to the ground
he heard a voice saying to him:
Σαοὺλ Σαούλ, τί με διώκεις;
“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
5 εἶπεν δέ, Τίς εἶ, κύριε;
And he said, “Who are you, lord?”
And he (replied): “I am Jesus whom you persecutes!
But stand up and go to the city,
and you will be told what you must do.”
And the men who were traveling with him stood speechless,
hearing the voice
but seeing nobody.
And Saul got up from the ground,
but although his eyes were open
he did see nothing.
And leading him by the hand
they brought him into Damascus.
And he was for three days not seeing,
and he did not eat nor drink.
And there was a disciple in Damascus
named Ananias.
And the Lord said to him in a vision,
“Ananias!” and he said: “See, (here) I (am), Lord.”
And the Lord (said) to him:
“After getting up you go to the street
called ‘Straight,’
and seek in Judas’ house
for (a man) named Saul from Tarsus.
For see, he is praying.
and he has seen a man [in a vision ] named Ananias
coming in and placing on him [the] hands
so that he may see again.”
But Ananias replied:
“Lord, I have heard from many people about this man,
how much harm to your saints he has done in Jerusalem,
and here he has authority
from the chief priests to put in irons
all who call on your name!”
But the Lord said to him:
“Go, because a chosen tool this man is for me
to carry my name before nations
and kings and the sons of Israel.
For I shall show him
how much he for the sake of my name must suffer .”
And Ananias departed
and entered the house,
and having placed on him the hands he said:
“Saul, brother, the Lord has sent me
Jesus, who has been seen by you
on the road along which you came,
so that you may see again and be filled with a holy spirit.”
And immediately fell from his eyes something like shells,
he did see again, and after getting up he was baptized.
And after taking food he strengthened.
And he was with the disciples in Damascus
for several days.
