Mc15,16 – 16,8

And the soldiers brought him away
into the courtyard, which is the headquarters,
and they called together the whole company.
And they clothed him in a purple coat,
and they put on him,
after having braided, a crown of thorns.
And they began saluting him:
“Hail, King of the Jews!”
And they hit his head with a reed
and they spat upon him,
and bending the knees
they worshipped him.

And after they had mocked him
they stripped him of the purple coat
and put on him his own clothes.
And they led him out
to crucify him.

And they compelled a passer-by,
Simon of Cyrene,,
who was coming from the field,
the father of Alexander and Rufus,
to bear his cross.

And they brought him to the place Golgotha,
which is,translated, Place of a skull.

And they gave him with myrrh mixed wine;
but he did not accept it.
And they crucified him,
and divided among them his clothes,
casting lots over the things
τίς τί ἄρῃ
(to decide) who what should take.
It was the third hour
(= nine o’clock in the morning)
and they crucified him.

And the inscription of his accusation
had been written upon:
“The King of the Jews.”

And with him they crucified two robbers,
one on his right and one on his left.

And those who passed by blasphemed him,
shaking their heads and saying:
“Aha! You, who destroys the temple
and build it in three days,
save yourself
coming down from the cross!”

In the same way also the chief priests
mocking (him) among themselves
with the scribes said,
“Others he saved; himself he cannot save,
the Anointed, the King of Israel!
Let him come down now from the cross,
so that we may see and believe.”

Also those who were crucified with him
abused him.

And when had come the sixth hour
(= when it was noon)
darkness came over the whole land
until the ninth hour
( = until three in the afternoon)
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out
with a loud voice:
Ελωι ελωι λεμα σαβαχθανι;
“Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?”
which is, translated:
“My God, my God,
εἰς τί ἐγκατέλιπές με;
why have you leaved me?”

And some of the bystanders,
havng heard (it), said:
“See, he is calling upon Elijah.”
And someone, having run forward
and having filled a sponge with vinegar,
having put it on a stick,
gave (it) to him to drink,
saying: “Wait,
let us see whether Elijah will come
to take him down.”

And Jesus,after giving
a loud cry, breathed his last.
And the veil of the temple
was torn in two, from top to bottom.

When he had seen (this), the centurion,
standing facing him,
that in this way he breathed his last, said:
“Truly this man
was a son of God!”

but when they had come to Jesus,
when they saw that he had died already,
they did not break his legs,
but one of the soldiers
with a spear pierced his side,
