Joseph interprets the Prisoners' Dreams · 3813 dagen geleden by Ad van den Ende

Genesis 40

It happened after these things,
he sinned, the chief cupbearer of the Egyptian king,
and the chief baker of their lord, the Egyptian king.
And the Pharao was very angry with his two chamberlains,
with the chief cupbearer and with the chief baker,
and he took them in custody
with the warder in the jail,
on the place where Joseph had been taken.

And the head of the guard brought them together with Joseph
and he served them;
they were during days in the prison.

And both of them saw a dream,
each of them (saw) a dream,
in the same night (they had) a view of this dream,
the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,
who were (chamberlains) of the Egyptian king,
who were in the prison.

Joseph came to them early in the morning,
and he saw them, and they were confused.
And he asked the chamberlains of the Pharao,
who were with him in the prison,
near his master, saying:
Τί ὅτι τὰ πρόσωπα ὑμῶν σκυθρωπὰ σήμερον;
Why your faces (are) sad today?
They said him:
“We saw a dream,
And who can explain it is not there”
Joseph said to them:
“Οὐχὶ διὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἡ διασάφησις αὐτῶν ἐστιν;
“Is not thanks to the god the explanation of them?
So tell them to me.”

And the chief cupbearer told
his dream to Joseph and said:
“In my dream there was a grapevine opposite me,
in the grapevine (were) three branches,
and when she flowered,
raising the young shoots,
(were) ripe the grapes of the cluster.

And the cup of the Pharaoh
(was) in my hand;
and I took the cluster of grapes
and pressed it into the cup,
and gave the cup
in the hands of the Pharaoh.”

And Joseph said to him:
“This is the explanation of it:
the three branches
are three days;
still three days
and Pharaoh will remember
your office,
and will restore you
in your office of chief cupbearer,
and you shall give the cup of the Pharaoh
in his hand,
according to your previous office
when you were wine-pourer.

But remember me by yourself
when it will be well with you;
and you will make mercy upon me
and will make mention of me to Pharaoh,
and you will get me
out of this prison.

For by robbery I was stolen
out of (the) land of the Hebrews;
and here I have not done something
but they did put me into this reservoir.”

And the chief baker saw
that he had explained exactly,
and he said to Joseph:
“I also saw a dream;
;
and I thought three baskets
with bannocks to bear
on my head.
And in the uppermost basket
(were) of all sorts
which king Pharaoh eats,
(the) work of a baker.
And the birds of the heaven
did eat that
out of the basket above on my head.”

And Joseph, answering, said to him:
“This (is) its explanation:
the three baskets are three days.
Still three days, (then)
Pharaoh will take away your head from you,
and he will hang you on a pole,
and they will eat, the birds of the heaven,
your flesh from you.”

It happened that on the third day
it was the day of the birth of the Pharaoh,
and he made a drinking-bout for all his servants.
and he remembered the offce of the chief cupbearer
and the office of the chief baker
in the middle of his servants.

And he restored the chief cupbearer
to his office,
and he gave the cup
in the hand of the Pharaoh.
But the chief baker he hanged
just as Joseph had explained to them.
And the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph,
but he forgot him.
