Genesis 3
The snake was
the cleverest
of all the wild animals
τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς,
on the earth,
that the Lord God made.
And the snake said
to the woman,
‘Why said God:
‘You must not eat
from any tree
τοῦ ἐν τῷ παραδείσῳ;
in the garden?’
And the woman said
to the snake:
‘Of the fruit from (every) tree
of the garden we eat;
but of the fruit of the tree
that is in the middle of the garden
God said,
‘You do not eat from it,
and even you must not touch it,
in order that you not will dy.’
The snake said
to the woman:
‘You will not die a death,
for God knew that
on the day when you eat from it
your eyes will be opened
and you will be like Gods,
knowing good and bad.’
And he woman saw
that the tree (is) good for food,
and that (it is) very well
for the eyes to see
and that it is suitable
to know (good and bad),
and after taking (some of)
its fruit she ate it.
And she also gave (some of it)
to her husband
(who was) with her, and he ate.
And they were opened,
the eyes of the two,
and they knew they were naked,
and they sewed together
leaves of the fig
and made for themselves
coverings.
And they heard the voice
of the Lord God
walking about in the garden
in the evening,
and they hid,
Adam and his wife,
from the face of the Lord God
in the midst of the trees
of the garden.
And the Lord God called
Adam and said to him:
Αδαμ, ποῦ εἶ;
‘Adam, where are you?’
And he said to him:
Τὴν φωνήν σου ἤκουσα
‘Your voice I heard,
while you was walking about
in the garden,
and I was afraid
because I am naked,
and I hid.’
And he (God) said to him:
Τίς ἀνήγγειλέν σοι
‘Who told you
ὅτι γυμνὸς εἶ;
that you are naked?
Surely not from the tree
that I commanded you
only from that not to eat,
ἔφαγες;
you did eat?’
And Adam said:
‘The woman whom you gave me,
she gave me (some fruit)
from the tree, and I ate.’
And the Lord God said
to the woman:
Τί τοῦτο ἐποίησας;
‘Why did you do this?’
And the woman said:
Ὁ ὄφις ἠπάτησέν με,
‘The snake tricked me,
and I ate.’
