God pronounces Judgement · 5103 dagen geleden by Ad van den Ende
And the Lord God said
to the snake:
‘Because you have done this,
you will be avoided
bij all the tamed animals
and by all the wild animals
τῆς γῆς·
of the field;
On your breast
and belly you will crawl
and dust you will eat
all the days of your life.
And I will put hostility
between you
and the woman,
and between your offspring
and her offspring;
this (her offspring) will spy
on your head,
and you will spy
on his (=her offspring’s) heel.’
And to the woman he said:
Πληθύνων πληθυνῶ
I will greatly increase
your sorrows
and your sighing,
with pain you will give birth
to children;
and behind your husband
will be your refuge,
and he will be your lord.’
To Adam he said:
Ὅτι ἤκουσας
‘Because you listened
to the voice of your wife
and ate from the tree
about which I commanded you
only from this not to eat:
ἐπικατάρατος ἡ γῆ
cursed is the ground
in your actions,
in sorrows you will eat its yealds
all the days of your life.
Thorns and thistles
it will produce for you,
and you will eat
the grass of the field.
By the sweat of your face
you will eat your bread,
until you go back
εἰς τὴν γῆν,
to the soil
out of which you were taken;
ὅτι γῆ εἶ
for soil you are,
and to soil you will return.’
And Adam called
the name of his wife Life,
because she was mother
of all the living (men).
And the Lord God made
for Adam and his wife
clothes from skin
and he clothed them.
And God said:
‘See, Adam has become
like one of us
in knowing good and bad,
and now, may he never
stretch out his hand
and take from the tree of life
and eat
and live forever.’
And He expelled him,
the Lord God,
from the garden of Eden
to cultivate the soil
from which he had been taken.
And he drove Adam out,
and did settle him
opposite to the garden of Eden;
and he placed the cherubim
and the flaming sword
which was wheeling round
to guard the way
to the tree of life.
