Joseph and Potiphar´s Wife · 4067 dagen geleden by Ad van den Ende

Genesis 39

Joseph was brought to Egypt
and Potiphar bought him,
the chamberlain of te Pharaoh,
the head of the guard, an Egyptian man,
out of the hand of the Ishmaelites
who brought him there.

And the Lord was with Joseph
and he was a successful man,
and he lived in the house
with the Egyptian master.

His master noticed
that the Lord (was) with him
and that all he did
the Lord did succeed in his hands.

And Joseph found favour
facing his master,
he pleased him,
and he appointed him over his house
and all that was of him.
he gave in Joseph’s hand.

It happened after he was appointed
over his house
and over all that was of him,
and the Lord blessed the house
of the Egyptian by Joseph,
and the blessing of the Lord was
on all that he had on his disposal
in the house and on the field.

And he entrusted all that was of him
to the hands of Joseph,
and he did not think about anything in his household,
about nothing except the bread he ate himself.

And Joseph was handsome in shape
and very charming in appearance.

And it happened after these things
and the wife of his master let fall
her eyes on Joseph,
and said: ”Sleep with me!”

But he did not want so,
he said to the wife of his master:
“If my master do not know, because of me,
anything in his house,
and all that is of him
he gave in my hands,
and nothing rises in this house above me,
nothing has been kept back from me except you,
because you are his wife,
and how can I do such a bad thing
καὶ ἁμαρτήσομαι ἐναντίον τοῦ θεοῦ;
and commit a terrible sin facing God?”

Then she spoke to Joseph day after day,
and he did not obey her to sleep with her
to have sex with her.

It happened one day
that Joseph entered the house
to do his tasks,
and nobody of the people was inside the house,
and she did pull at his clothes
saying: ”Sleep with me.”
And having left behind his clothes in her hands
he fled and went away outdoors.

And it happened when she saw
he had left behind his clothes
in her hands,
and fled and went away outdoors,
and she did call the people in the house
and spoke to them, saying:
to ridicule us. He came to me, saying:
Sleep with me,
and I shouted in a loud voice.
When he heard
that I did raise my voice
and shouted,
after having left his clothes with me
he fled and went away outdoors.”

Ad she let lie the clothes close by her
until came the master into his house.
And she spoke to him according to these words,
saying: “He came to me,
to ridicule me and he said to me:
“I will sleep with you!
But when he heard that I raised my voice
and shouted, he left his clothes near me
and fled and ran away.”

It happened when his master heard
the words of his wife,
that she spoke to him, saying:
“This is what your slave did to me!”.
and he flew into a rage.

And the master, after grabbing Joseph,
put him into the prison,
into the place in which
the prisoners of the king were kept,
there in the prison.

And the Lord was with Joseph
and poured pity over him.
and he gave him goodwill
from the head of the prison.

And the head of the prison gave the prison
in the hand of Joseph,
and all who had been carried away
who (were) in the prison,
and all that they do there.

The head of the gard did not know of the prison
anything on behalf of himself.
Because all was in the hand of Joseph
as a result of the fact that the Lord was with him,
and all he did
the Lord did succeed in his hands.
